FinanceX is an Official Media Partner to Balkan Payment Forum 2026

We are delighted to announce that FinanceX Magazine has been named an official media partner of the Balkan Payment Forum 2026, one of the most strategically significant payments and fintech gatherings in Southern Europe. Scheduled for May 14, 2026, at the Rogner Hotel Tirana in Tirana, Albania, the Forum represents a landmark moment for the regional payments ecosystem, and we are proud to be part of it.

What Is the Balkan Payment Forum?

The Balkan Payment Forum is a high-level, single-day conference purpose-built to connect the payments, fintech, and financial services ecosystem of the Balkans and Southern Europe with the wider global payments community. Now in its 2026 edition, the Forum has established itself as the definitive gathering for senior decision-makers navigating the rapid transformation of payments across one of Europe's most dynamic and fast-evolving regions.

This year's event is expected to welcome more than 200 delegates from over 20 countries, alongside 25 speakers and more than 15 regulators. Attendees span the full breadth of the financial services industry: central banks, supervisory authorities, commercial banks, payment service providers, fintech startups, institutional investors, and technology vendors. The event is held under the honorary patronage of IFC (World Bank Group) and SECO, further cementing its standing as a forum of genuine institutional weight.

Why Tirana, and Why Now?

The choice of Tirana as host city is no coincidence. Albania, like much of the Western Balkans, sits at a crossroads of digital transformation and regulatory convergence. The region is accelerating its integration with EU payment standards at the same time as it grapples with the practical realities of cash dependency, cross-border commerce complexity, and uneven fintech infrastructure.

The 2026 Forum arrives at a particularly critical juncture. EU-driven regulatory change, including PSD3, SEPA Instant Payments, and the broader Open Finance agenda, is reshaping the compliance and commercial landscape for every institution operating in or into the Balkans. Meanwhile, foreign investment appetite for regional fintech is growing, and the question of whether the Balkans can credibly position itself as a fintech growth hub by 2030 is firmly on the agenda.

A Speaker Lineup Built for Decision-Makers

The Forum has assembled a speaker faculty that reflects both the regulatory complexity and the entrepreneurial energy of the region. Confirmed speakers include:

This is a room where monetary policy meets market innovation, and where the regulatory debates of today will shape the payment architecture of tomorrow.

What's on the Agenda?

The Forum's programme is structured around four major thematic pillars, each addressed through keynote presentations and interactive panel discussions:

1. Regulatory Outlook for the Balkan Region The opening panel sets the tone with a frank assessment of regulatory priorities for payments, innovation, and financial integrity across 2026–2027. Topics include the practical impact of PSD3, the first six months of SEPA live, and the incentives needed to accelerate cashless adoption.

2. Digital Payments Transformation A deep dive into the key drivers of growth in the region, from mobile and instant payments to embedded finance, bank–fintech cooperation models, and the most promising emerging business models.

3. AML, Compliance & Anti-Fraud A rigorous look at managing financial crime risks in a rapidly digitalising environment, covering KYC/KYB challenges for fintechs and PSPs, evolving fraud trends in e-commerce, and the real versus overhyped role of AI and machine learning in compliance.

4. Investment & Strategic Outlook The closing panel tackles the big strategic question: can the Balkans realistically become a fintech growth hub? What attracts investors, which products carry the highest potential, and what structural obstacles remain on the path to a cashless 2030?
